Bug Soother has always been a big fan of golf. In fact, golf courses were some of our first customers! We went around to nearly all the golf courses within a 60 mile radius of Columbus Junction, trying to sell Bug Soother. Our sales pitch must have worked, because 9 out of 10 golf courses bought it from us, without even knowing whether it worked! As it turns out, it does work, and unlike many other bug sprays, it doesn’t harm the grass. Today, Bug Soother is carried in golf courses across the country and is even present at many professional golf tournaments, such as the John Deere Classic, the Solheim Cup, and even the U.S. Senior Open! But, for nostalgia’s sake, we’ve decided to revisit our roots, and talk to some of the original courses that carried Bug Soother.
Spirit Hollow golf course in Burlington, Iowa was recently ranked by GolfWeek as the #1 Best Course You Can Play in Iowa. Jim Wyffels is the Director of Golf Course Management at Spirit Hollow. He enjoys the game of golf because it challenges him, and every time he steps up to the first tee, he gets to “hit the reset button,” and it may be his best round yet. But, he says that a good round also depends on if the bugs are bothering you. “Golfing takes concentration, and if you’re spending time swatting gnats or other flying distractions, you can’t concentrate on your shot or putt!” To remedy that problem, Jim and many other golfers at Spirit Hollow use Bug Soother. When asked why the Spirit Hollow clubhouse carries Bug Soother, Jim says, “We want our guests to have an enjoyable experience. We provide first class hospitality and golf, so we want to provide our guests with a product that will allow them to enjoy a bug free experience, and we believe that Bug Soother does that!”
Geneva Golf & Country Club in Muscatine, Iowa was another one of Bug Soother’s first customers. Steve Hutton, a PGA professional and manager of Geneva’s pro shop, is also a fan of Bug Soother. Steve remarks, “Golf is a very hard sport to play and you need all of your focus on the shot, and not be worried about buzzing insects who are distracting you!” He says that he uses Bug Soother because it works as well as any bug repellent he has tried. And because playing a good game of golf requires lots of time and practice, oftentimes it also requires Bug Soother, especially in muggy and buggy conditions! Steve says, “I would definitely recommend Bug Soother to anyone!”
So the next time you’re heading out to play a round of golf, make sure you’ve got your Bug Soother with you!
